THAT'S A LOT OF INFO & HOMEWORK!

Anybody else sort've overwhelmed?

Will all his students sound alike when they take to slapping?

From what i see, his patterns are very Mark King-ish sounding.

Alot of the info he's dispensing, it's safe to assume that i would've never figured out on my own.

If I lived in Prince George's county then I would be going to Waldorf and just take lessons with him. I live over an hour away and would be a hike for a lesson.

www.bassology.net

But I have taken courses on MusicDojo and the way to get through it is don't miss a day. Get your lesson down the day it is given out because catching up is hard to do.

And no 2 people sound alike. I've seen 2 bass players play the same bass and amp rig and sound completely different. It's in the fingers!!!!

Gintaras, i studied with Anthony for over a year (as i live in PG County) and Anthony layed so much theory on me till i overloaded.

What i should've stressed when i went to my lesson was for him to help me develop the more rhythmic aspects of bass playing (finding & creating the pocket, locking in with a drummer/drum machine, syncopations)

He's a wonderful teacher, as every bass player in MD/Dc/Va has seemed to have sat under Anthony for awhile.

This slap 2 course is really intensive and even though i haven't missed a day per se, i can't honestly say that i've mastered each lesson so far.

Financially, it actually works out to be a better deal to study with Anthony online, as he charge $21.00 per half hour session, for a face to face lesson but has his rate set at the Music Dojo for $49.95, for a month worth of lessons.

What i'm hoping to gain from this course, is to be whipped into more of a rhythmic shape.

good luck with the course. I have a lesson today with my teacher and coincidentally we are starting to work on slap. He has put together a cd of slap exercises for his students.

How about posting on how your class is going....

I sure can Gintaras. ...

At the outset, i thought i could transition from this course when it finished & then go onto Slap bass 3 but onaccount that there's so much info here, i see that i will really have to sit with this for awhile, as this phase has a serious concentration on dexterity exercises.

This is definetly a lot of material for the money, that's for sure!

I've been fortunate enough to take private lessons with Anthony as well as, the Music Dojo classes. He is a great teacher and has an incredible knowledge of the bass and music. Working with Ant really makes you think and it shows!

For those of you in the Philly area Anthony teaches once a month at Bass Specialties.
I'm in Southern PA and take the hike up there (2 hour drive which is well worth it!) whenever I can.

Go to www.bassspecialties.com and get the phone number. Call to schedule a lesson. Glenn Marrazzo is the owner and a great person and bassist. He puts on clinics at the store quite often. Last week I went up there for a clinic with John Patitucci and it was a great time.

All the best,
Gerry

Gerry, Anthony gets around, lol.

It's funny, because his personality is strong (and mine is too) he *kinda* got smart with me in my lesson and i got offended by it and stopped my studies with him. I had already sat with him for a full year taped each lesson, but it's nice to have video footage, as the Dojo is offering.

I perfer studying with Ant throught the Dojo, lol. He's a passionate & skilled teacher but it become burdensome to try & grasp a technique or concept each week, to have even more piled on the following weeks. It was soo much info that he was dispensing that i didn't know how to assimilate it into my playing and ended up with many techniques, but no music.

I recommend Anthony whenever anyone asks about teachers in the area, he's a great guy and apparently a very good teacher. But every bassist in the area hasn't studied with him

Who knows, maybe I'm the only one who hasn't.

Did you voice the fact that you needed more time to digest what you were given? Or express where you felt you needed more work (rhythymically)?

Some times the teacher can't help you make the music (and no I'm not being sarcastic).

Brad, as i was under Anthony's supervision, i didn't quite know how 'learning the language of music' should sort've progress, so i kind've went with the flow. As a celebrated teacher, in a one on one session with a student, i assumed that it would be glaringly obvious to Anthony where i was deficent at and that he would steer me to work on my weakness (Poor ear, no groove, etc, just being honest here fellas)

As far as the lessons went, i would read from this very site about concepts (modes, substitutions, parallel minor, etc) and bring these things to Anthony with the thought process that knowing these advanced concepts would equip me to play with anyone. Anthony would take my questions, and explain these abstract concepts to me on his litle chalk board in the room at Hot Licks. This went on for about 6 or 7 months. (weekly half hour lessons)

All the while, what i should've been given attention was the transcription part, the locking in with, or without a drummer part. That's the whole aspect that i'm the weakest in, sad to say.

I'm 95% at fault.

However, studying under *THE GREAT ANTHONY WELLINGTON* i again assumed that if i was jumping too far ahead, he would pull in the reigns on me and direct me to more pratical lessons, sort've like tailoring my lessons to make me equipped to play with mostly anyone.

Anthony is a celebrated teacher, but i don't know if he was the right teacher for me.

Being as advanced as he is (musically) there was a dissconect between myself & him. What would seem obvoius to him needed to be spelled out to me, like listening to the kick drum and how to play along with it, really foundational stuff, as if the foundation is layed improperly or poorly, how can you build on it?

I hope i'm not disrespecting him or discouraging anyone from considering studying with him, as this was just my personal experience.

I agree with that 210% JAUQO.

I so wanted to get on the same page with Anthony. Music would just flow out've that dude when he would show me all the modes and how to mix up scale patterns and i was sold on the idea that everything i was taking in would *click in* when it was time, as i was always reassured by Anthony.

I still love the lil guy and the time i spent @ Hot Licks with my lessons and i have no problem sitting in his online class, lol!

And my comment was not a jab at Anthony at all (he happens to be a very good friend of mine).
