Any Seattleites know well-qualified Christian bass instructors in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett area? Recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

i'm a christian. i have been since i was 14. (i'm 27 now) i've spent the last 5 or so years making my living playing christian music in churches and christian bands.
never have i found a scale or interval that could be considered evil.
just make sure to get a good teacher, one who you can connect with and can teach you in a way that you understand.

I suppose you wouldn't want to be paying for lessons from a grubby jew or something. |

At least, I hope that's what he means... that would be awfully non-Christian of him otherwise (IMHO of course).

I play at church a lot, but when I look for bass instruction I look for bass credentials. I just misunderstood the wording of your original post.
Best of luck on your search.

No seriously, to the op- It might behoove you find a good p&w bassist in your community (by visiting other churches, perhaps?) and ask them for some lessons. Any good teacher can teach you theory & mechanics, but if you want insight into a particular genre or style a practicing "player" will be a better resource! |

I've done an amount of church gigs as a paid player and, other than the lyrical content, I don't really see Christian music as being a specific genre musically-speaking. The notes look the same on the chart and the music sounds suspiciously like rock, r&b, pop, gospel, Brazilian music, etc. to my ears. If you want to be a good bass player who plays in church or anywhere, I would suggest finding a teacher who can BEST help you get your reading, theory and musicianship chops together. If faith or other non-music-related issues come up in the lesson, you're lesson time is being wasted. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
