Any good sight reading for bass books?

Hey guys, I am just now starting to take electric bass seriously and am looking for a book to help me to read bass clef on the bass.

I can read bass clef and treble clef, just not on the bass if that makes sense. In other words, I can read for piano and guitar, just not for bass. I am looking for a book that takes you through some exercises on each string so I can be able to at some point sight read on bass. I am in grad school for composition, so I know about notes values, theory, etc, but theory as applied to bass would be cool. Also, stuff for 5 string is a plus, but I can figure that out on my own . Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

I'd just read anything you can get your hands on ... on the bass.

Just take it slow enough and always be aware of where you are on the neck.
You'll learn quicker, where all the notes are this way. :-)

There's a great "real-world" application sight-reading book. Examples are more what you will come across in 'popular' styles (jazz standards, country, pop, etc...). "Reading Contemporary Electric Bass" by Rich Appleman.

The Essential Elements 2000 books are quite good, imho.

You mean like you know that the note on the second ledger line is a B, but you just don't know where to put your finger? That makes sense. I'd just go to wikia or use something online for free.

If you want to learn to read on the Bass use Ed Friedlands Method. I used the Simandl String Bass method. Both will get you reading in a logical way. I've played quite a few instruments and always started on the book one of that instruments method to get reading on it.

"Sight Reading for the Bass" by Ron Velosky.

Best-of-breed IMHO.

Bassbooks.com has it.
