I watched this series religiously. LOL

It was usually hosted by Herbie Hancock.

So did I, over and over again!. M y Parents Videod the whole series for me - I was away working on a ship (playing Bass) at the time it was first shown in the UK (without Herbie Hancock's introductions) - and I definitely learned a thing or two from it.

The BBC should re-issue it on DVD - it definitely still stands up today - and I'd recommend it to anyone who plays Guitar, Bass or Drums.

We never got the slick HH intros, we just had the er... rather odd collective of Dierdre Cartwright, Henry Thomas (with a gorgeous Westone Thunder III) & Geoff Nicholls who were all very Nice and Proper as you'd expect from the BBC.

At the time, I had trouble taking it seriously (I think it was largely the homespun 1-take-&-that's-your lot approach - but being 18/19 had a lot to do with it too), but seeing them again there's a load of really good, clear information in there - ideal for someone new to music. It really ought to be revamped.

This episode... Tuning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayccbQyQ5vI - John Entwistle, Neil Murray & a wonderful cameo from the lunatic Wilko Johnson.

& all you need to know about Metal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBxFg_5s63c

There's a superb sequence with Sly & Robbie somewhere in these as well.

Ahhhh... ...The 80s

I don't remember that one.
But there was a show, I think it was on PBS. With some kids giving lessons.
Guitar, bass, drums and keys I think.
Anyone remember that one?

i remember it well..excuse the dodgy hair and clothes the information and advice still stand up today..
you would think that somebody could do another more modern version today.the digital age has changed music in so many ways both good and bad..but i guess its always been like that..given the ammount musicians out there and handled the right way i think it would be a huge success..
