A few nights ago I saw a YouTube video (which I can't find now!) of a guy playing arpeggios up and down the neck. The thing is the arpeggios were based on scale degree...and the whole thing was movable according to the position of the tonic note.
Does anyone have a diagram of this that they can send me? Or even a link to one?
I am new to this so sorry if I am unclear or using the wrong terms here. I will try to clarify if my question is too vague.
Thanks!

| | | | Are you asking how to move a scale up and down the neck and what a scale or arpeggio looks like? Basically are you asking for the tabs to the major and minor scales/chords?

what I think I saw was something like this.
The guy first played the major triad, then minor, then seventh, then diminished, etc. while travelling up the neck. Plus the whole thing was movable based on your tonic.
I thought it was by scale degree but that may be the wrong terminology.
Also, I would like to see a neck diagram (4-string) as opposed to tab if possible.
Basically I'm looking for a picture of what he played.

| | | OH! Haha. Okay it's probably best to learn it in terms of semitones and remember, one semitone equals one fret... (I'll use 0 for the root note and then tell you how many semitones/frets the next note is)
Major: 0 + 4 + 3
Minor: 0 + 3 + 4
Augmented: 0 + 4 + 4
Diminished: 0 + 3 + 3
Major seventh: 0 + 4 + 3 + 4
Minor seventh: 0 + 3 + 4 + 3
Major sixth: 0 + 4 + 3 + 2
Minor sixth: 0 + 3 + 4 + 1
there are more, I'll find you a site about it... http://www.vt2000.com/basswork/chords/index.htm
read all the topics listed at the bottom left, it's a lot (about an hour or two's worth), but it will explain to you all the in's and out's of basic theory and I haven't found one mistake in it yet

Lots of studying to do I guess, but what I'm really looking for is a diagram so that I can start practicing arpeggio shapes that cover most chord types in a movable format down the neck.
Wish I could find that video!

| | | | Okay, so by up and down the neck you mean moving positions. So major chords look like
|------|------|------|------|
|------|------|------|------|
|M-3RD|------|------|FIFTH|
|------|-ROOT|------|------|
OR:
|------|------|------|------|
|FIFTH|------|------|------|
|------|------|M-3RD|------|
|------|------|------|-ROOT|
then the best way to add the seventh and remain comfortable is:
|------|------|------|------|
|------|------|M-7TH|------|
|M-3RD|------|------|FIFTH|
|------|-ROOT|------|------|
then for minor move the M-3rd and M-7th to the left and leave the root and fifth where they are sooo:
|------|------|------|------|------|
|------|------|------|------|------|
|m-3RD|------|------|------|FIFTH|
|------|------|-ROOT|------|------|
OR:
|------|------|------|------|
|FIFTH|------|------|------|
|------|m-3rd|------|------|
|------|------|------|-ROOT|
and then for the minor seventh:
|------|------|------|------|
|FIFTH|------|------|m-7th|
|------|m-3rd|------|------|
|------|------|------|-ROOT|

Joe. | i once sat down and drew my own neck diagrams and filled in the notes myself, color coded etc......you would probably be better served working them out on the neck, slowly, saying the chord tones out loud as you go.....the patterns will emerge naturally, and with some work, you will know them

Anyone know what I'm talking about and have a diagram? |

| | | | You mean a diagram of all the notes on the neck?

| | | | Oh so he wants to get a diagram of where each arpeggio is on the neck? Wow haha. He needs to go to a chord site. Any of them will probably have a generator for the chords

Any of them will probably have a generator for the chords | when you draw all the C's,E's,G's,and B's for example,on a neck diagram the patterns are very easy to distinguish.....my belief is that working them out on the instrument is way better
