Audition coming up

Sign in to disble this ad
I am currently planning on auditioning for the music program at the University of Utah. I'm hoping to start working on a Music Minor and will be auditioning on just BG. (I can play DB well enough for jazz; I just don't own one. )

Anyways, I've already talked to the music department and since there's a shortage of bass players in the program, they're willing to let me audition of just BG. Now, I just have to figure out my audition material. For a jazz audition, all I have to prepare is one major scale and one harmonic minor scale plus a group or solo selection from Jazz repertoire, i.e. a Jamey Aebersold track. I'm probably going to do G major and E harmonic minor, but I'm not sure about my selection. I can play jazz, and understand it theory-wise, as long as it doesn't get too crazy, but I don't really know any "jazz standards" by name. Any suggestions? I'm looking for something up tempo (but not as fast as, say, Sweet Georgia Brown) that has been performed quite a bit so I can pick up some recordings of it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/ideas.
