Audition today any tips?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I have an audition for a bluesy rock band today, they gave me 4 songs to learn which I did...then they gave me 2 more for which the guitarist was supposed to give me chords but never did...I managed to figure out a good deal of the 2 songs but didn't have enough to time to get them down solid after spending a lot of time figuring them out.

Anyway anyone have any suggestions on how work with my ill preparedness, or any tips for the audition process in general?

play what you know with confidence, and listen to what the guys are playing--that goes a long way

and if you've figured out some of those 2 songs, you're well-prepared to learn on the fly what you couldn't decipher yet

good luck--hit it!

Sounds like it could be a test. You got most of the tunes, so just make them sound as good as you can. There is no wrong in that situation.

I'm probably too late for this post, but when I go into a band situation, my #1 concern is "can we groove?"

I get the guitarists to play a simplified chord progression - usually looping one of the choruses from their songs and then I work with the drummer to get a good, tight, solid groove going. If I can do that, learning the songs is a cakewalk & they really couldn't care less about any of the other stuff.

Remember, you're auditioning the band as much as they're auditioning you.

They re-scheduled on me again, after I left work early and everything...:sigh: At least I have time to work out those last 2 songs.

Thanks for the advice btw guys.
