augmented scale - whole tone scale

Sign in to disble this ad
hello, im working in a song with a king crimsonish use of the whole tone scale /augmented scale and i realise that since i dont know how this scale works (6 notes???) i can not work out the proper chords...

so, can anyone explain to me how this scale is "done", how it works, some chords that would fit it, and any other kind of suggestion that you find usefull.

thanks a lot

the augmented/whole tone scale works great as the V chord against a natural minor. say a D aug. against a Gmin. it also sounds killer to substitute that augmented/whole tone with a D7+9.

It is made completely of whole steps. Ex - C D E F# G# A# C. You can start any any note but there are really only "2" whole tone scale note sets, one starting on C and one starting on B. They have a very airy feeling to them, kind of like your floating outside of a key. Listen to some Debussy.
