AWESOME Chromatic Trick - Lesson with Scott Devine

In this lesson I demonstrate an absolutely KILLER chromatic style lick... then I show you how you can start to expand on this idea by just moving the shape around in a chromatic fashion.

Scott, is the string-spacing on your bass narrower than standard, or do you just have gigantic hands?

Lol... Yeah the string spacing is 16.5mm... so a little tighter than the average, which I think on a jazz bass is around 18mm.

... But... my hands are pretty big anyway so it makes the string spacing look REALLY tight

I'm always appreciative of the time you spend explaining the underlying thinking of the theory and harmonic context that each lesson supports. Your stuff is exceptionally illustrative of how to pragmatically apply all that 'theory stuff' to bass lines.

You mentioned in the lesson that this lick may not work for country or similar music where you're having to concentrate on the root. When you get the time could you post a riff/lick/sexy notes lesson on the genres of Country/Americana?

Yeah... the first part of the tutorial is definitely more of a lick... but the at the back end of the tutorial I start to develop the idea and show how you can use the same idea - as in, shifting the same shape around in a chromatic fashion. That's why I called it a 'trick', just for a lack of a better word.

For the record, I find this riff easy in every way...except one. Timing. My brain cannot get the proper timing. Maybe it's just going to require more practice than I thought to get it right.
