B.I.A.B. Chord Progressions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello All!

I just bought Band In A Box the other day and i think its awesome, theres only one problem! I need to know where i can find a bunch of different chord progressions i can use to play along with. If anyone knows where i could find a bunch of different ones that would be great! Also, would you recommend when i play along with chord progressions, if i should a) play chord tones along with the different chords in the progressions, or b) play the scale. I'm guessing probably both i just thought i'd ask maybe get different opinions on it!

Thanks in Advance!

Chord tones or scales. Both. Some of us are working through Ed Friedland's Building Walking Bass Lines and it seems like Ed is taking us to a combination of both, i.e. using chord tones but the chord tone riff will insert approach notes from the scale. Hard to describe here with out you seeing the book.

I'm so stuck in my 4/4 four beats to the bar World I have problems moving from chord tones to scale tones in my playing. BIAB would be a good place to practice this.

As far as progressions go, there will be hundreds of choices you can plug in. I'd start with the basic I IV V I and ii V I
then read what www.musictheory.net has to say. Go to Lessons then Common Chord Progressions and throw in some of the things they talk about. Sub ii for IV, use viidim instead of the V, things like that. Work on some turn-a-rounds like viidim, iii, vi, ii, V7, I.

Let us know how it goes.

Good luck.

Real book in BIAB format.

I haven't actually checked this one out but if it's the same one I had years ago it's got a bunch of the stuff out of the real books. With mine, not all of 'em had the melody (which is no big deal) and, like the actual Real Books, some of the chords are occasionally debatable.

I stumbled onto this site when I first got BIAB. It has midi files for Real Book I in addition to thousands of other files which I've not explored.
Yes, you can turn the sound off at the bottom of the page.
