Bass Audition Song

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone have suggestions on pieces to play at an audition for a big band on electric bass? I don't really have an idea of where to start looking. Would I be looking for a transcibed jazz solo, or something else? A song geared towards the more beginner/intermediate pieces would be good. Any suggestions?

just play whast you can play there isnt much point of trying to play t e hardest or jazziest song you are capable of, as long as you play something with a bit more to it than root notes you'll be fine the band will know what they are looking and if you are that or not with or without a rapid wooten solo

first off, wooten solos arent usually very jazzy

id look in a real book or something, check out some jazz standards.

learn the chords and figure out a walking line or maybe even a solo...i guess it depends on what kind of big band were talking about, just play what ever seems appropriate.

Definiately some walking bass stuff. No solo stuff, you need to groove walking that bassline, outlining chords etc.
Killer Joe, All Blues, So What, all good bass features.

Check out some bass centered tunes like So What, One Bass Hit, etc...........classic jazz with a bass melody and nothing that technically hard.

Thanks! I will look into those songs. So far the only one I am familiar with is So What, but I will try to find those others as well.

Billies Bounce or Anthropology are good tunes to play...

Play the head, then walking, then a solo, then head out...

these tunes are nice because if you can play them well etc, they show basic bebop vocabulary
