Bass book to read

This may sound a bit odd but are there any books regarding bass playing that you just read? ie it doesn't have alot of stuff that you're supposed to play to learn. For example Bass for Dummies has a fair amount of writing in it that you can just read while another book I have is mostly notes and tab to learn to play with.

I like to read a bit before bed each night. So I've read books on my golf swing and poker. I was curious if there is anything worth reading with regard to basses.

I'm a musical noob as well so anything would expand my knowledge

You might want to check out Standing In the Shadows of Motown. The first half of the book is a biography of James Jamerson and the second half is transcriptions of his licks in famous songs he played on. It also comes with a couple CDs of covers played by famous bassists. Check it out!

Jazz Bass, or something like that...it has quite a bit to play in it, but theres a ton to read on many of the early great bassists...its mostly for DB but its not like you cant play it on bass guitar.

Mike Visceglia also wrote a book I've been meaning to get - it's interviews with and stories from veteran bassists...
