Bass books

I wanted to get some bass books to expand my knowledge of the bass.

I've been playing for about 3 years now and am comfortable with the instrument, but haven't been exposed to very many styles of music, and haven't played any blues/jazz/funk or any of that.

I was looking at some of Ed Friedland's books, such as "Bass Grooves: Develop Your Groove and Play Like the Pros in Any Style".

Any other recommendations?

I'm not familar with the Ed Friedland book you mention, but all his books seem to get good recommendations here. I would recommend another two of his books.

For blues I'd start with Dave overthrows begining blues bass. It has a bunch of classic blues grooves. After that I like Jon Liebmans book. For funk, if you are talking fingerstyle funk, josquin des pres classicfunk and r&b book is cool. I
Also like the James brown funk master book, as well as standing in the shadows of Motown.

Groove 101. This book has really helped me get a feel for timing as well as where a bass line should fit. I just completed chapter 1 after 2 months of study and now I'm more precise when I play in my band.

Jamey Aebersold Jazz then go to the bass section and check out the play-a-long selections.

Have fun.
