jtpaulo,

I've written five books for Hal Leonard, which you may find helpful.

FUNK BASS, my first book, deals exclusively with slapping;

FUNK/FUSION BASS, my second book, focuses on finger-style funk and has loads of exercises on scale and arpeggio studies, sting crossings, etc., as well as entire chapters devoted to grooving and soloing.

ROCK BASS, my third book, covers the history of rock (and rock bass lines and solos) from the '50s through the '90s.

BLUES BASS, my fourth book, covers just about every kind of blues style imaginable, with many grooves and blues bass solos.

BASS GROOVES: THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION, is my newest book, scheduled for release at the January 2009 NAMM show. It has grooves in virtually every style, including blues, jazz, rock, funk/R&B, reggae, country, latin and much more. Will Lee, who wrote the foreword, says it's "the most important book since Standing in the Shadows of Motown."

Let me know if I can answer any questions or be of any help. Good luck!

Do you seriously have to post this in every thread in here?

I've seen this same post about 10 times today in different threads - that's GREAT that you have written books and are willing to help, but spamming your post count with the same post over and over..well that's just lame.

Maybe the mods could sticky your post for you?

Actually, I'm pretty new at this basstalk forum stuff. You're right -- maybe I overdid it. Sorry. Thanks for noticing, though! Best...

I hope you're going to drop us another post when your latest book is on the shelves - looks like something I'd like te have. FWIW: I have seen your post about this for the first time and would have missed it if you have not quoted it here. You may have to do so again in order to answer a question - rather post a link to one of your previous references to it - it will look less like 'spamming'?

+1 on Bass for Dummies. It's surprising how good it is. (You feel like a Dummy when you buy it but not when you've finished it!) Also a nod to Mr Liebman's book on the blues. A lot of rock is structured on a blues foundation.
Friedland's Walking Basslines 1&2 and his Building Rock Bass Lines. The Bass Grimoire is a great book for a wide range of scales and their patterns but no theory. There are a few books focusing on Bass Music Theory. Check Hal Leonard's site and Alfred's.
Have fun.

That's good news - I'm awaiting delivery of mine (unfortunately it's not an overnight ordeal like in the 'States)!

Well, how's this for (a lack of?) luck: waited 6 weeks for the Dummies book to arrive from the 'States. The wife went to pick it up today and on the way back quickly dropped something off at a friend's house. 120 seconds after entering the house, the car was stolen - with my book inside! Now for the re-order and wait all over again...
