Hi,

Can you recommend a book or site that offers good bass instruction for beginners. I need exercises, how to read music and general understanding of my bass.

Cheers!!

Ditto - www.studybass.com and ask questions here.

Bass guitar for Dummies does a good job of explaining what we do and how to do it.

This post goes into detail about ways to find notes on your fretboard, kinda important you get that behind you.

Here is a fretboard chart in case you do not already have one.

Good luck.

StudyBass is good ... and free. It's how I started out.

However, I found I progressed much faster once I switched my primary study over to the Hal Leonard Bass Method, Complete Edition, by Ed Friedland. It goes for less than 20 bucks (US) and includes 3 play-along CDs.

Here's a recent thread on the book: Massive big-up to Ed Friedland's bass method

Have you looked into lessons?

+1 for "Study Bass" and "Bass Guitar for Dummies" !

I also highly recommend Carol Kaye's teaching material. There is lots of valuable information on her site also : www.carolkaye.com
