Bass lesson cost?

How much would some lessons cost? My local music shop says thay lessons are 30 bucks for half an hour and 50 for an hour. Good deal, or what? If not, how much would it usually cost? Thanks.

My bass teacher charged me $25 per half hour. I've only had one teacher, and he's the only guy I could find in my town, so I don't know how that compares to most people.

Was it worth the $25 to you?

If I were a more dedicated bass player, it would have been easily worth it. I had a great time and learned a good bit. For me personally, I shouldn't have wasted my money, but that's just because of the way my life is and the things I do/don't do with it.

If you're trying to figure out if it's worth it to get an instructor, take a few lessons and feel the guy out. If nothing else, you'll learn a few things about yourself and your strengths/weaknesses as a bass player.

$20 per half hour, or minimum $80 per month through a music store around here. It's possible that since some instructors only see a cut of that, you may find someone worthwhile that charges less to teach out of their home (without the overhead expenses of a store's practice rooms).

Here it's around 20 to 25 dollars per 1/2 hour.

I'm paying $25/half hour. I've got a good instructor, so it's a bargain in my opinion.

Going rate is $75 to $80 for four thirty minute sessions during the month.

Is it worth that. Sure. Nothing like sitting knee to knee and being able to receive instant feedback.

Most instructors will give you so much information you will need to lay out for awhile and absorb what you've been given. Take a couple of months, lay out, digest what you've been given then go back for more.

I've always taken instruction in small spurts - two to three months at a time seems to work best for me.

Have fun.

Really depends on where you live and how qualified is the teacher.
Great teachers will charge $80 to $100 an hour.
A highschooler might charge $10 to $20 an hour.

Teacher I have in Metro Detroit charges 20 for a half, and 40 for an hour. He plays for a national touring soul/R&B singer, and is educated in Jazz from Wayne State University, I think he is a bargain. Great guy also, and loves to teach.

Local stores have dropped their rates recently.
They were $30 for 1/2 hour & $50 for 1 hour.
New rates $20 -$ 25 per half dpending where you sign up.
1 hour is rare, no one is dropping $50 a week for music store classes.

Well my friend who works there says the instructor is amazingly good.
It seems it cost anywhere from 20-40 bucks per half hour, so I guess what he's asking is a regular rate.

In Australia, the norm is $35 per half and $70 per hour. These rates are for bassists with music degrees so there is some quality control. The numbers you have been quoted are in the ball park.

That's pretty much the going rate around here, at least for the teachers in the music stores. My cousin teaches piano in her home for $17/half hour.

$30 per half hour from one instructor & $45 for 45 minutes from another are what I'm paying currently. A buck a minute seems to be the benchmark I've experienced.

Your question is impossible to answer with the information you give. Do you live on the Great Plains, the Sahara, the Bronx, Reykjavik?

Teaching is a profession. For that reason, a music store is the last, not first place to look. That’s not to say that there aren’t good teachers in music stores, but the store’s owner is first and foremost a merchant in the business of sales. and takes a cut of any lessons given on his premises. Try contacting local music teachers in the schools around you. They will have some good ideas of any bass teachers around you.

Studying with a good teacher is always worth the money, no matter what stage you are at. There is always something to learn or brush up on. The key is find the best teacher you can. Accredited college professionals are usually a safe bet. If you have heard of them as players, all the better. If you are uncomfortable with them or they do not inspire you, try someone else. An inspiring teacher is worth whatever they charge. Go with an open mind and leave your ego at the door.

How do you learn anything in just a half hour? My bass lessons are an hour long and I'm always surprised when they end. I do see that my lessons are a bargai
n and even the second teacher I just engaged for arco is not out of line cost wise judging from these posts.

I used to charge $25 per half-hour, but that was in the ealry '90s. They had the choice whether to come once a week for half-an-hour or come twice a month for an hour each time. It depended on the student as to which was best. I would often suggest one or the other, depending on my impression of the student.
