The "Bass Magic" Program

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi! I'm new to this forum, though I've been reading some of it's post for a while. I want to learn to how play bassguitar, but where I live for the moment (hidden place in Norway) there are no instructors that I know of, and was wondering how to get started? At the moment I'm 21 years old, and hadn't touched an instrument before 1,5 years ago, and since then I've learned how to play the root (if that's what you call the C in i.e. a C-chord), and a couple of scales. But i don't know how to use themm the scales that is...

I've been google-ing for some time, and this program http://www.sdgsoft.com/bm/bmWelcome.htm - called Bass Magic looks promising. Would you guys recommend it?

- Thanks!

There's not a single bassist living near you? Or a guitarist who knows how to play bass or anything? Well scales are a must. Try to get or download videos of pros giving bass lessons. Someone has to show you how to properly use your left and right hand.

Start with:

www.studybass.com
www.adamnitti.com/lessons.shtml
http://wheatsbassbook.org/
www.activebass.com
http://www.guitarnoise.com/bass.php

Also, go see some live bands and see if the bassist would be willing to help get you started on your way.

or heck get a bass, and download some tabs to your favorite songs. then just play along with them. I know its not the best thing to learn technique but if your only playing in your basement for yourself it can be fun.

Hey,

You might consider taking a class from musicdojo.com. There's a number of threads talking about them here. I'm taking the "Bass - First Steps" class. It's a month long and covers a lot of the basic stuff for $30. Way cheaper than any teacher I have found. I will warn you that you really need to have some discipline. If you don't work through all the exercises (including a fair bit of reading music), your wasting your money.

Good luck!

Hey there,

Very cool that your instructor is Eddie Kohen. Eddie is a great guy and he does teach on the MV site as well. I got the chance to talk to him quite a bit on the phone and during our test lesson. He is a really great bass player and just one of the nicest guys I have come across.

I run the Music Virtuosity website so if anyone has any questions, ask away.

Ron
