Bass Solo Tips

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys, im in this new band with my friends that starting to really work out good and we were talking about things conserning new songs and stuff and the guitarist was saying how he wanted everyone to have a solo in a different song. which means i need to do a solo.... i've never done a solo and i really want to do a good one. i've been playing for 2 years, and i think im decent for how long i've been playing.
I was wondering if you guys could give me tips on how to create a good solo. one of the things im looking for is like, scales to use. if i was to write a solo right now over, say,a G Dm A Em chord progression, i would propaly use major and minor scales for their respective chords, but when i hear great solos, i dont think they do that....what scales and notes do they use?
any tips you could provide would be much appreciated. thanks guys

p.s. i posted a thread in the "Bassists" forum about good bass solos in songs. if you would like to help me on that, that would be great also. here is the link Bass Solos

Check out Jeff Berlin's solos on the Allan Holdsworth CD 'Road Games'. His solo on the title track is particularly beautiful (over a very simple chord progression).
