Hey guys, im new to the forum and have a question about getting a certain bass sound.

Ive been trying to get a bass sound similar to that of Justin Chancellor from Tool, (see 'schism'), ive been trying for ages t oget the sound right, fiddling with the EQ on my amp, (Warwick sweet 15.2, 8 band graphic EQ) but just cant get it. wondering if yo ucould offer any suggestions that doesnt involve buying a mesa boogie.

my bass is an Aria Pro II elite 1, from about 1984, in case your wondering.

thanks a lot!

justin uses a pick

there is a fair amount of high end on that part and some gain wouldn't hurt.

when i play that line... i don't really go for the exact tone, i play with my fingers, back by the bridge, pluck hard and make sure your left hand is executing it properly.

Hi, JC's sound is a complicated result of several amps and effects being used simultaneously. Try searching on "chancellor" and "tool" and "schism" over in the Effects forum, for much detailed discussion.

You should also realize that even with identical gear and knob settings, it will never sound just like the recording.
too much post-processing stuff goes on to effect the sound you finally hear on CD.
