Bass strap for a boney guy

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a boney guy 6'2ish 150 lbs and my strap is digging into my shoulder on my clavicle. I just got a 3" strap and it's better but still noticeable. My bass is 9.8 lbs and I don't have much shoulder for a wider strap.

I wasn't sure where to place this being I'm a noob so here it is. I did use search btw and only found one thread that did not have a solution.

Thanks,

Which 3" strap do you have? I have an ATK305 that I play with a Planet Waves 3" padded strap that's been pretty good to me, I am on the leaner side as well.

I use DSL.

They do offer a 3.5" padded too. Length is only average to a person of 6 foot, however personally I am increasingly playing at more sensible guitar height so they are quite acceptable.

Good quality, money well spent. When my first was stolen, it was the only choice for replacement.

DSL Straps

Hope this is of interest.

Thanks for the replies.

I like the Mono. Never tried the Comfort Strapp.

No disrespect to those who like them, but I think a better name for the Comfort Strapp would be DIScomfort strap. They bounce around, dig into your shoulder, and feel just awful to me.

Look at the 4" straps from Italia: Guitar Straps - Leather Guitar Straps - Bass Guitar Straps

Not cheap, but they will last the rest of your life and the 4" width will distribute the weight of your bass evenly across the shoulder.

They will even make you a custom strap and it's still under 100 clams. I have mine made as one piece...no "tail" or the lump that comes with it poking into your back.

I totally agree. I know folks who love them, but they dig into my shoulder, too. I like the Levy's strap MSS2-4 in tsunami's post 2 above mine.

Have you adjusted the pad on the planet waves one? You have to kind of work it into position and then you can use a pin to keep it in place.

Check out the Mono straps, with memory foam pads sewed into the shoulder. They're really well made right here the US of A. I bought one for my boney kid.

Try the Martin woven cloth strap.
It has nice leather ends that attach to the instrument, but the part that lays on your shoulder is woven cloth which doesn't dig into your shoulder or slide too much. I've been using them for years.

I use the Neotech (neoprene) padded bass strap and love it. I also play an 8 lb bass due to shoulder issues. 4 inches!

+1. I have one for every bass. Great strap. Additional benefit of it being neoprene is you can wash it if it gets funky.
