Big Update:

Woohoo... So my dad's friend stopped over with one of his right handed bass and so it turns out it's not a big deal at all. AND I feel way more comfortable playing right handed.

He even gave me some beginner lessons, and I was a natural.. Haha, maybe a little over confident, but I LOVED it. It's such a different feeling making music out of nothing.

Anyway so I think I've about decided on a bass to start out with.. Can you guys check my thread in the bass section and give me some feedback if possible:

All that's left is an amp which I've yet to research. I'm too excited..

Thanks for the great advice guys, you've made my life a ton easier.

Cheers,

Bryan

If he is more comfortable playing left handed, which it seems to be the case, he should probably pursue playing left handed.

As I said in my last post, I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to play with his strings upside down on a right handed bass. I have seen it done though, including slap and pop. But as I said he should probably at the most have the nut reversed if he is going to insist on a right handed bass and string it backwards.
I would also reverse the polarity of the pickups too if I were to play upside down.
