Bening Notes

So I'm reading the tabs for NIB and it says to bend 7-9 on the D string

for all you tab haters that would be bending A#-B

how do I go about this. I know the basic principles of bending notes but am lost on how to bend one note into another.

depending on how the tab is written, either bend and slide up, or bend until the B plays a c#. probably the later.

pull harder! and retune after the song. should sound good if pulled smoothly and cleanly.

7th is A and 9th is B so from so a whole tone. A semitone is quite near the G string so a whole note is way over the fretboard or touching the G string at least. Are you sure it's not a hammer-on? I'm really not familiar with the song... EADG tuning?

It simply means you bend the note at the 7th fret until it sounds like the one at the 9th fret, if it's a bend. Are you sure it doesn't mean to SLIDE from 7 to 9?

And, you can bend by pushing the note, instead of pulling it. Push the D string towards the A, you'll have plenty of physical room to move it a whole step. Whether you've got the strength to do so depends on your strings and your action.

If it says 7b9 or something like that on the tab, yeah, you want to bend up a full tone. On the D string that high up, it's definitely doable if your strings aren't too tight.

If it's the bend in the main riff, I'd put it nearer a semitone - maybe a little more - not a full tone. A bent up to Bb seems to fit.

The bends in Geezer's intro might be nearer a full tone though.

Stuff the TAB fingering, is there any reason not to play it starting on the E, 12th fret? Loads of room to move & it's in the same register.

Pete.

Not in standard tuning. The 7th fret of the D string is A, not A#.

One good reason not to play it at the 12th fret of the E string is because the note needs to be an A, not an E. Maybe the 12th fret of the A string however, for the good reasons you stated.

hmm good advice. I tried sliding and I pushing up. Sliding sounds more like what he's doing.
