I can swing but do not rock. It's time to fix that & Berklee is nearby. I'm going to give the rock/funk classes a try.

Remember to explore the tabs under the Get Schooled at ... Basslines Header to the right.

Hi Stefan, tell me more. What do you want to take home with you? Do you plan to do the Rock, Jazz or Latin sections?

I attended the basslines program back in 2008 (prior to enrolling at Berklee full time). Just as a forewarning, this is not a miracle program, while there is some knowledge to gain, it is nothing like the full time institute. It's more of an introduction to the bass department at the college. If you haven't been playing to ridiculously long, you could take a lot home from this. If you have a few years under your belt, it's a great place to get some leads into exploration of new styles/techniques, but you definitely should not expect to come out with a thorough understanding after one weekend.

On a positive note, if you are interested in funk, Anthony Vitti (the funk/slap teacher at Berklee) to my knowledge is doing a performance during the basslines program. I took a lab with him this semester, he is a spectacular player (think Marcus Miller with Luther Vandross era meets Nathaniel Phillips). I also caught wind of who will be teaching the master class this time around, though I will leave that as a surprise.

I hope you have an awesome time and walk away with some useful info! Keep us posted!

(On a side note, if you can, take sessions with Danny Morris. Absolutely one of my favorite teachers here. He's a hell of a player and probably the nicest guy at the school. When I was at the basslines program, he taught in the Worldbeat section. He's also the author of several books on rock bass.)

Best of luck!

I agree
i attended basslines in 2006, and graduated from berklee in 2009. I'll be there working 5 week if anyone is around for that.

Checked out your page man. You play some beautiful instruments! I saw that you studied with Lincoln Goines, I'm looking forward to studying with him next semester myself.

It sounds like what I expect. I have a short list of questions & want/need exposure to genres other than jazz.

Thx for the info Dude.

he's one of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet. some of the bass department can be very pushy they expect everyone to be a performance major and that just isnt realistic, but Lincoln i never got that from.

its a huge difference between basslines and being there full time. I'd recommend going to 5 week if you're serious about playing but can't be there full time. there is so much more involved in full time study than you'll ever see at basslines.
