i was wondering if berklee online would be a good choice to study bass and are there any bass players out there who have tried the program and who are successfull

I've been through Berklee on-line's bass program. Do a search here as there are several posts detailing the program. If there are specifics I can answer, please let me know.

The classes are paced well so if you practice daily, you'll do fine. You'll record and post your homework each week. All of your classmates will be able to listen to your post and see your instructors critique. The peer pressure is a good thing as you'll want to bring your best each week.

The instructors are top notch guys (Danny Morris, Anthony Vitti, Jim Stinnett, Gary Burton) who will personally critique your homework and provide feedback.

It's like anything else though, you will need to practice and you'll get out of it what you put into it.

I havent done the bass, but I've done the Specialist Certificate course for production using Logic and it was great. The Instructors for the most part are amazing and will give you great feedback, and as long as you take your time to learn the lessons and read the assigned reading, you'll do fine. I haven't done the bass course yet, but I'm most likely going to this summer. The question is should I take the basic bass course first or take Jazz bass right off the back? I've played for 7 years but never had any formal training, so I'm just wondering. Not to hijack the thread :/ sorry OP..

I imagine the courses are excellent.

My complaints are:

- Very high - IMHO - cost.
- You have to know how to read to do the jazz course - maybe all the courses.

I took the theory courses for the certificate. I was very happy with these courses, but they don't come cheap!

Not sure it matters in regards to the order you take the classes in, but if you're going for the cert. the BP101 class is a good foundation so take it first. BTW - the Jazz Bass course is great.

Berklee online is brilliant. It doesn't get any better. (You get what you pay for.) The faculty are as invested or more invested in your progress as in any students' in their actual classrooms. It's no wonder they win the Best Online education award every year. Don't miss out on the four free classes they're offering on Coursera!
