I have a book called "The Dictionary of Bass Grooves" by Sean Malone. It's not exactly super-beginner level, but it covers a lot of styles.

+100000. Dave is my private instructor. His books are great. Pick up the Complete Electric Bass Method, you won't be disappointed.

One of the best books I have purchased is called" Harmonic colors for bass" by david C. Gross It gives so much insight into thinking outside the box. Highly recomended it has so many unfamiliar approaches that I cant put it down, here is something from his website.HARMONIC COLORS FOR BASS, ADD STYLE, AND DIMENSION TO YOUR GROOVES WITH TECHNICAL EXERCISES, AND MUSICAL EXAMPLES. LEARN TO BUILD STRONG BASSLINES FOLLOWING GUIDELINES TO CONSTRUCT SCALES, ARPEGGIOS, AND MODES IN A MUSICAL CONTEXT. A PLAY ALONG CD IS INCLUDED.
