Best forum for "teaching" discussion?

I've been thinking about teaching music. I know enough about Basic theory and chord structure. I can play basic guitar chords and demonstrate chords on a piano.

I'm thinking that I can at least teach what I know. Is there a job in teaching for me? Do I need to be certified? Do I have to have chops Like Jaco/Jammerson/Miller? Clapton/Page/Berry/?

Domino/Lewis/Joel?

Do I have to know all about different styles?

Surprised no one has answered. So here goes.....

Are you qualified, if you had to ask, I'd say no. Understand my background is in teaching, however, I've never taught music. It is my opinion knowing how to play guitar does not necessarily qualify you to teach guitar.

You probably would do as well as some of the music store back room guys I've run across. Don't expect people to pay you while you are learning how to teach. Start off giving free lessons to your friends kids or the kids at your church's youth group, if you have a knack for this and you enjoy it, hang out your shingle and start charging.

being a great player does not always equate to being a great teacher.....i'd say teach what you know,as long as you inform that your knowledge is limited

The other part of the equation is - look where you ARE! You're gonna be offering the same services as some of the best music educators in the WORLD, who live here in NYC. The only way you're gonna be able to break into that market, since it doesn't seem like you can really offer anything more, is to ask for less. Thereby muddying the waters and dragging the money down for everybody else who is doing this for a living and actually is good at it.

Good job!
