Learning is a long process, don't get wrapped up in what you did today.

this from Michael Wilcox when I asked him how to play music I didn't particularly find interesting.

2. Listen- Just about every pro i've ever met
3. Volume does not equal tone- me
4. Learn how to get a good mix with your band mates- producers and promoters
5. If you can't hear what everyone in the band is doing, you are too loud-me
6. If you just want to be heard and don't care how the rest sounds, go solo-me again

one of my music instructors....
---kinda translates to keep pumpin' the groove, and dont stop, for whatever reason---
do you job
one of my other bass teachers...
---this was for auditions, just go in , play and dont expect anything....even if you play your best, you might not get called....but if you played your best, and nailed the music, you "did your job"---
those two helped me alot...

'In theory, practice and theory are the same, in practice, they never are.'

but you do have to PRACTICE perfect....
a drummer told me that...
that helped me focus when I practice, instead of just "noodle noodle around"

When I was at school, my bass instructor picked up a drumstick and turned to show me the butt end. You know that little black dot in the middle of the butt end of a drumstick? He told me "Get in there."
Years later, I'm still working on it. But the advice has done well by me. |
