I don't even like Rush, but learning a few Rush lines is pretty mandatory.

I think they use H in Germany, actually. Somewhere does anyway.

I think a lot of Marillion's songs have got great basslines, but then I'm biased because they're my favourite band.

I'll play. Off the top of my head, these are tunes whose bass lines made me think, "cool". None of them are particularly difficult, and most are pretty damn easy. I will not list any "staples" of bassdom- just good tunes with good, fun basslines.

Photograph- Ringo Starr
One Of These Nights- Eagles
Dazz- Brick
Something About You- Level 42
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic- The Police
Another Day- Wings
War of the Hearts- Sade
Green-Eyed Lady- Sugarloaf

Play that Funky Music White Boy - Wild Cherry

Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder or the RHCP

La Villa Strangiato - Rush (Also Big Money, Circumstances, New World Man, 2112, etc. Sorry! I am Canadian... liking Rush is a prerequisite)

Superfreak - Rick James

99 Red Balloons - Nina

Longview - Green Day

Queen - Under Pressure (Great line considering you really never leave the 12th fret!) and Another One Bites the Dust

Etc....etc....etc......... These are just a few off the top of my head.

BTW... these are by no stretch the BEST songs ever recorded, but the bass lines are IMO even though I dislike a few of them.

I can't think of a real good list because there are just so many, but YYZ has to be one of the top "bass playing songs" ever written. It gives us a chance to be noticed after doing things like Sweet Home Alabma.

I think my favorite bassline ever is from The Who's "The Real Me." The verse where Pete's guitar drops out still raises the hair on the back of my neck. RIP Ox.

Where can I get accurate sheet music for "DO I DO?" I want to learn that song so bad! And Do you think it was with flatwound strings?
