A couple of nice Rolling Stones songs are in C. For example, Brown Sugar, Start Me Up, or Let It Bleed. They are all pretty simple to cop.

"Summertime" is usually in A minor - the relative minor of C major. Get your theory knowledge going!

The question was about learning to read. There is a reason why beginning school music comes in C, you don't have many flats or sharps to deal with. It is the crawl stage of crawl, walk and run.

Midnight Hour by Wilson Pickett....

Sorry.....I meant Mustang Sally of course!

Midnight hour is in E

Elvis Presley Mess of Blues is in C.

Eric Clapton's Stormy Monday is in C....good slow blues practice. Also his version of Freddie King's Tore Down is in C (Freddie did it in D).

Hey Bartender by Blues Brothers is in C.

if you'd like to break out of the jazz/motown thing for change of pace try Bach's Prelude in C (the well-tempered clavier). Good for a bassist to tackle because you'll need to read G clef as well, but the suggestions above are all right on the money.
