I'm looking for a kind of muddy, thick sound. What settings shuold be used to get that? Like where should I pluck the strings, which pickup should be louder, and what equalizer levels should I go for?

When I go for the sound that I think you're getting at, I will pluck the stricg about where the 22nd fret is. If it's a 19 to 21 fret bass, then resting your thumb on the edge of the fingerboard would be a good gauge. I would have the Neck Pick-up as the main one because of shear volume loss of having your plucking so far away...

Is that the sound you were going for?

Do the above, and maybe roll off some highs EQ-wise.
