Bit of fill and music help please?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am learning 2 tunes for an audition with a corporate cover band tomorrow night (60's 70's 80's classic rock and cabaret band).

The tunes are:

Robbie Williams - Let Me Entertain You
Katrina and the Waves - Walking on Sunshine.

I have the progressions down and can jam thru them alright. Now I'm working on the fills but am struggling a bit (mainly due to time pressure LOL):

Let Me - The fills are just super fast and hard to hear. I'm using basic pentatonics to "get by" but I'm not sure if thats the best approach to the song. Any help appreciated.

Walkin - 10+ years of playing minor metal scales has made it difficult to express "happy" on the fly. Any hints on "happy" fills, perhaps some that fit the chorus progression (F --> Eb progression in the key of Bb)

Thanks, back to jamming these tunes.

Not familiar with the Robbie Williams, but pentatonics and blues scales will cover a lot of ground in pop music.

As for happy, stay away from minor 9ths, locrian and phrygian modes, and minor chords. Keep it all strictly in the key of the song. And with that song, try not to overplay. Roots will work better than wedging something in there that sounds cool on bass but doesn't work.
