Blues Bass by Ed Friedland

This is a great book for anybody trying to “get their groove”. Not that I really dig the blues, but the basic instruction in this book is very good. I’ve come to appreciate the articulation and discipline it takes to play the blues and really think this stuff has the basics that every bass player should learn. I've always had the idea that blues progressions are easy (I, iv, v) and that I didn’t need to work on that aspect of my playing. But then whenever I tried to play blues with other people I always sucked. I guess it comes down to "you can’t play it unless you play it", if that makes any sense.

Anyway, Ed takes you through virtually all styles of blues and has many standards that you can play with. He plays the guitar parts too so kudos to him as a blues guitarist.

I highly recommend, especially to beginners. No matter what style you want to play, don’t miss out on the basic foundations of bass playing that this book offers.

Yup, good book. IMO, the perfect book for those who want to join in the blues jam at the local club.
