I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction to some good bossa nova, samba albums to learn from. I've never took the time to actually learn this style but it always interested me.

Haven't looked into it as much as i'd like but there's this cd with some phenomonal bass playing:

BLACK RIO 2 ORIGINAL SAMBA SOUL: Various Artists: Amazon.co.uk: Music

Not really Samba or bossa nova. More soul with elements of soul and bossa nova. Too good to not mention.
"Far out: strictly Samba" could be a great starting point. Far out do a bossa album as well.

that's a whole world to explore but here's a few with the classic tunes --

Antonio Carlos Jobim -- Unknown (or Inedito, same disc released under different titles). This is the late-80s "New Band" w/ Jacques and Paula Morelenbaum, Daniel and Simone Caymmi, and Jobim's wife and kids. Generally pretty straightforward pop arrangements of a bunch of great tunes ("pop" isn't meant here in any derogatory sense. It's not a jazz record, that's all that's meant)

For the original '50s-60s arrangements (Claus Ogerman etc) there's a pretty good compilation called "Antonio Carlos Jobim -- Composer", combines a couple of classic LPs and a few other tracks.

For jazz interpretations, pretty much every Eliane Elias disc has a bossa or two -- a couple are all Jobim, Plays Jobim is a great one. Fantasia has a really great version of Chega De Saudade w/Eddie Gomez.

Also check out Joe Henderson's "Double Rainbow", half the record is with a Brazilian rhythm section, the other half american jazz.

that's probably enough to get you started, those wil lead you to more stuff. ah one more, there's an Elis Regina 2-disc set "Samba Jazz & Bossa", bunch of great stuff on that one too, some Brazilian funk, etc.

ok one more -- Joao Gilberto, Chega De Saudade. Pretty much where it all begins.
