BWBL and Audacity for the mentally challenged

Sign in to disble this ad
The CD that comes with Building Walking Bass Lines. I want to lower the volume of the piano so I can hear the bass line.

Using Audacity - I've read the manual but what is written in the manual and what is showing on the screen of the Audacity work station are not the same - I've got a file from the CD into Audacity - When I start trying to lower the piano volume I get lost at; "Open track menu, arrow next to the track title -- (can not see anything naming the track) then it says; "and choose split stereo track". Somewhere between there and "Select the lower track (RH) click area by the mute/solo button" ------- I'm lost. I can not find a mute/solo button. If I take it from stero to mono I only get one track ......

Little help for an all thumbs mentally challenged old guy.

Thanks

Figured it out. For those interested.

Rip the CD to your computer using Windows Media Player or whatever you use to ripp.

Download Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Open Audacity.

Click File -- Import -- Audio -- and this should take you to your ripped CD in your computer.

Pick a song - in this case - double click - 05 Adding the fifth.

Click view in the toolbar then click mixer board.

In the mixer board click solo then move the slider to the far left.

Now hit Play (the big green triangle)

Adjust the sliders so the piano is low and you can hear the bass line.

I'm not going to save the file as all I want is to hear the example, understand what is being done, and move on to the next example. Save if you like.

Have fun.

Alternatively, once you've got the song in Audacity, select all of it (Ctrl-A) and then select Effect / Bass Boost.
