Can anyone tell me what chord John Patitucci is playing in this video around 4:54? It looks like an Aug5 from his fingering but i tried it with various roots and i can't figure it out! Any help would appreciated.

which is also 3/4ths of a diminished 7th, a common sound on an altered dominant. I tried to watch the video but had to turn it off before the bass player started doing anything.

1, b3, 6 is enharmonic to a first inversion diminished chord. So in C it would be Cdim/Eb

it could be any number of things. assuming we have C-Eb-A that could be:

C-6
C or Eb or F sharp or A dim7
Adim, although a diminished triad is more often functionally a 7th without the root, so:
F7
B7alt or B7flat9

etc.

fun with harmony, good times.

And then he woke up in a cold sweat screaming; "where am I?"

Cool tune but frustrating to watch because the video isn't in sync with the audio.

yea it is, but after watching a while you figure out the delay and how a part should sound at that point.
