"Caribbean" bass line examples

Sign in to disble this ad
Received an acoustic guitar song from a friend who's looking for "a bouncy caribbean bassline" to it.

Any thoughts on what he's referring to? Any examples you might point me toward?

Thanks

"bouncy Carribean" could be many things...I'd look at Ska lines first. But I'd have to hear it to make an educated guess about what type he might be thinking.

Does the rhythm of the guitar or other parts imply anything?
Like strong off-beats would be pretty Jamaican, for example...

+1

right - could be ska, reggae.

or maybe Afro-Cuban (for Afro-Cuban jazz, listen to any recordings with bassists John Benitez or Andy Gonzalez)

or maybe Calypso (try recordings of Sonny Rollins' "St. Thomas")

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, the guitars have a strong off-beat to them.
