CD/book wanted for walking basslines

Sign in to disble this ad
I'd like to purchase a CD of songs minus the walking basslines, along with a chart. Not 30-second clips -- something longer so that I have time to practice playing through chord progressions. I understand the concepts of playing through the changes, now I just need something to play along with so that I can practice it. Recommendations?

You get the book for the changes, but on top of that, there's the book of transcribed bass lines.

+1 to both of the above. Band in a Box is really the ultimate practice tool.

And...There are BIAB files for Real Book I, so you don't have to sit there and type in tune after tune.

For what you're asking for specifically I highly recommend the bass lines edition of Jazz Conception by Jim Snidero.

Dennis Irwin is playing the recorded/transcribed bass lines. You can pan the recording to play minus the bass. The lines are great, the tunes are re-titled versions of changes to jazz standards and the notation is good. The lines are fun to play.

+1 and +1 on BIAB and Aebersold. There are many bass lines on the Aerbersold recordings just itching to be transcribed and you can pan the recordings to just the bass and drums side to assist.

+1. Jim Snidero is highly recommended. His books were standard instructional material for the jazz bands at my college.
