Preparing for a very big audition in a few months.
Part of the audition will be reading off a chord chart, and I've never read one. I know chord symbols and chord theory, I've just never actually read one to feel comfortable doing so.
Does anyone know any good sites that would have standard rock or jazz tunes I could get chord charts for to practice with?
Or if you have something you could e-mail me PM me and I'll give you my address!
Just about all sheet music today has chord symbols as well as notattion, just ignore the notation. Get a Real Book music for tunes you have or can get recording of. Then put up the chart, start the tune and go.
If you know your chord symbol and basic chord construction you all set. The only thing you will probably need work on is reading roadmaps. See if there are any rehearsal bands in your area and ask the bass play if okay hang out and watch the charts as he plays. Then see if you can sit in. Reading chord charts is easy.
If you aren't up on your Walking bass get Ed Friedland's book. Rock stuff just play along with the radio and use your ear.
