I can kind of read of bass clef, to the point where i look at the music, count the lines, and then I know where the note is on the fretboard, but that is about it, so there is definite room for improvement there, so if you could get me some sheet music, that had tabs to supplement me, that would be amazing.
So is anyone going to answer my help call for helping me to learn classical music? |
Okay, first of all -- congratulations on this decision. You will not be disappointed. Let me offer you these suggestions:
1. I didn't look at your profile before posting this, so I'm not sure if you play DB, porkchop, or both. It doesn't really matter, anyway.
Run and grab yourself a copy of Franz Simandl's "New Method for Double Bass" Volume One. It is the bible for beginning double-bassist -- it will be invaluable to you in learning how to read, etc. You can find it on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/New-Method-Dou...191540&sr=8-10
2. When you get past that (or if you're just bored) check out the IMSLP. There are solo works for the double bass there (check out these sonatas by Marcello
http://imslp.org/wiki/6_Sonatas_for_...,_Benedetto%29 ) or if you prefer, try orchestral double bass parts, which are all over the place.
3. Also, look for Bottesini's Method (a little harder to find) but you could try sheetmusicplus.com.
Have fun. There's an amazing world of classical bass literature out there.
