Classical music

I would like to start learning some classical music for bass. I have no idea where to start so thats is why I am posting.

I can kind of read of bass clef, to the point where i look at the music, count the lines, and then I know where the note is on the fretboard, but that is about it, so there is definite room for improvement there, so if you could get me some sheet music, that had tabs to supplement me, that would be amazing.

So is anyone going to answer my help call for helping me to learn classical music?

Classical music for bass. I bet you could find that in Vegas, ask around. You may have to transpose the standard notation into tab, but, a number 2 pencil and some time.....

Good luck.

I have looked for teachers in vegas with not very much luck. I was hoping someone had a little more experience in this area than I have, and could point me in the right direction with sheet music.

Go out and buy some DB solos. Support a local music store.

Okay, first of all -- congratulations on this decision. You will not be disappointed. Let me offer you these suggestions:

1. I didn't look at your profile before posting this, so I'm not sure if you play DB, porkchop, or both. It doesn't really matter, anyway.

Run and grab yourself a copy of Franz Simandl's "New Method for Double Bass" Volume One. It is the bible for beginning double-bassist -- it will be invaluable to you in learning how to read, etc. You can find it on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/New-Method-Dou...191540&sr=8-10

2. When you get past that (or if you're just bored) check out the IMSLP. There are solo works for the double bass there (check out these sonatas by Marcello http://imslp.org/wiki/6_Sonatas_for_...,_Benedetto%29 ) or if you prefer, try orchestral double bass parts, which are all over the place.

3. Also, look for Bottesini's Method (a little harder to find) but you could try sheetmusicplus.com.

Have fun. There's an amazing world of classical bass literature out there.

If you're struggling to find Bottesini's Method, there are a number of options shown on the MyLiszt search engine: http://www.myliszt.com/index.php?sea...on&download=on
