Unhappy DF-404: Beginning Bass blunder?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just purchased an ESP LTD DF-404 to begin my bass guitar adventures. After purchasing it, noticed it is detuned and using b/e/a/d versus e/a/d/g. Not having any music training, my thought is this may create some difficulties with self instruction using a book or, possibly, in the classroom.

Did I blunder?

Not necessarily, just string it EADG, you might need a new nut though as the B string is larger than the E and the other slots would have been widened accordingly. Put a new set of strings on and if they don't rattle or the action isn't too low you're good to go. If there's any rattling or the strings sit too low, just get a new nut put on.

OK. Thank you, Marcury.

Your response is spot on with another question I had with changing the gauge in the 'string' forum. So it is a small concern easily corrected by someone that has the materials and technical expertise. Since I bought it used, probably best to take it into a shop for inspection and servicing, anyway.

Good information!
