Dictionary for Bassists?

I've been playing bass for around a year but am still quite confused by some of the terminology. Cabinet? Solid-state amp vs a tube amp vs a vacuum amp? Pre-amp? Gain? and many more...

I was wondering if there was a thread/website that any of you know of that provides clear, easy-to-understand definitions of common terms. That would help a lot. Thanks!

Wikipedia is a lot of things, but rarely is it clear & easy to understand.

You have to understand each part of what you are looking up.

You have to understand what a tube amp is and what it does, then you can decided the vs. factors against a solid-state amp but again you first have to know what a solid-state amp is and what it does.

Research is key, it may be not necessarily clear and easy to understand but I would think if the OP wants to understand these things more clearly he needs to know exactly what they are.

If you don't know what a word means when you are reading through something. Look it up as well.

Take a look at the FAQ Stickies at the top of the forums here at TB. There's one in the "Amps" forum which contains a lot of basic information.
