Okay, wouldn't a D# major scale be the following:

D# E# Fx G# A# B# Cx D#

Where x = double sharp.

Would it then be correct to say that the key signature would have 5 sharps and 2 double sharps for a total of 9 as opposed to 8?

So then, wouldn't it have 9 sharps? What about G# major? G#-A#-B#-C#-D#-E#-Fx-G#. See, that would have 8 sharps.
