Dividing practice time between fingerstyle, pick, and slap

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I'm a beginner, been playing about 8 months and I'm trying to become proficient in all 3 of these styles.

Fingerstyle is what I'm best at, I've spent almsost all of my time up to a month ago learning the instrument this way, but now I'm trying to get my pick and slap chops up to the same level.

My question:

Is it reccomended to do "total immersion" while learning the new techniques where I do nothing but say, pickstyle for a month, and then the next month shift to nothing but slap? Or should I divide my time 33/33/33 everyday? Pick is probably my weakest right now....I cannot play with any decent speed with a pick, but it's getting better everday as I practice.

If you want to be good at all 3 I say do 1/3 each day,.... or maybe even focus on one each day or something? I'm trying to get my finger speed up to play early metallica at speed (and play cliff's solo peice as well as I can for a christmas show!) so mainly focusing on fingers but when I was trying to do both fingers and slap I just did half and half on my practie time (I came from a guitarist background so when I started could ONLY use a pick and nothing else!)
