Does the CG-X method REALLY work?

I am an intermediate player who doesn't have a clue about theory or sheet music. I've been playing 4 about 4 years now without lessons. I want 2 get better so I can feel better about my skills when performing live. Does the CG-X method work or is it a rip-off. Thanks in advance to all who reply.
