Doing the best I can with what I can find!

Good morning everyone,

Well I wanted to start this thread because although I am new to TalkBass I can't seem to find the info I am looking for and maybe there are others that are looking for the same answers that I am.

First off, I am totally new to the bass guitar but I am pretty resourceful. I know that I should take lessons but for many reasons, I can not take formal lessons. My wife is going to teach me to read music and to play piano as soon as we buy one so I think that may speed up my basic music skills then.

In the mean time I am trying to learn all the scales that I can on my thumper (my bass guitars pet name), anyways, I have three so far that I know and am practicing them always. but the problem is I don't know what they are and I am trying to find more to play. These seem basic and I want to move on but not too quickly.

the first one is:
G-----------------------------------
D--------------------0--2-----------
A-----------0--2--3-----------------
E--0--2--3--------------------------

Second one is:
G------------------2--4--5-------
D--------2--3--5-----------------
A--3--5--------------------------
E--------------------------------

Third one is:
G--------------------------------
D-----------------4--6--7--------
A--------4--5--7-----------------
E--5--7--------------------------

Can someone tell the names of these? And if these are what I should be practicing. And what should be my next step?

Any info would be awesome.

E minor
C major
A major

Notice the two majors are the same in relation to the starting note you can move any of those patterns around and it will be the major or minor starting on the first note.

Didn't notice you had the lowest string as a D. It is an E in standard tuning. If it really is a D you got me

ProffesB is right on all counts. I'm kind of curious about how you picked up these scales without knowing their names.

Check out studybass.com for some good information about scales and chords. There are lots of other good sites out there as well.

Actually, my 14 y.o. daughter showed them to me and she couldn't remember their names. That's why I don't know their names. I'm looking for the next scale that I should go to.

Oh and I know this isn't the tab forum but does anyone, definatley, where I can find T.V. Dinners tab? I've searched all of the recommended sites.

Thanks for the info.
