Im playing a local battle of the bands, and we only get to play one cover and one original. I found out or cover is tuned down a whole step, while our original is in drop D. I've never had to tune down a whole step before and i just want to make sure my bass will be playable. |

| | | Are you tuning to a drop-C, or just the whole thing to what would be a D-standard?
If it's tuning to d-standard...just adjust where you're playing. A 'G' is still a 'G' no matter what fret it happens to fall on.

| | | | It will be playable...the strings will be much looser, the tuning will be far from perfect but it will sure be playable. The only person that you notice these things, if anybody does, is you. |

other than that, i would be more concerned with the practicality and hassle of tuning rather than anything gear-related |

Not a good idea. (if that's what you mean)
However, if you are doing both songs with your bass tuned to C (and you'd want to have it set up for that in advance) - then just shift up in position to play in D.
I would think that in a battle of the bands, you'd want to look as professional as possible. |

| | | | it shouldnt be a problem at all but if u have another bass u should put that bass in a whole step down and just switch it out
i do that and i dont have to worry about tuning down and back up again |

- Bring two basses, or
- Learn how to play the tune in standard tuning.
What are your bandmates doing? Nothing says bush league louder than making spectators watch a band tune up.

People are far more forgiving for a guitar change than watching someone muck around with a tuner on stage, or even worse hearing you tune through the PA.
Nothing is more professional than going from one song straight into the next in these kinds of gigs. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
