Drop C?

HEllo!

A friend of mine who is a guitarist is in to heavy metalcore/ hardcore..and wants to jam..so I said sure..He wants me to tune to Drop C, which I think is C F B E ? I can tune to drop D, but dont know how to get to Drop C..help please?!

Instead of tuning your bass to "E" (EADG, low-to-high), and then dropping the "E" to "D", you tune the bass to "D" (DGCF) and drop the "D" to "C".

That is "Drop C"

Drop C would be C G C F. I personally use some medium DR highbeams, .045-.105 works great for the tuning. .110 would be good for that low C as well. Also, be sure to raise the action just a smidge after you stretch them out.

Get a 5 stringer bass and tell him to tune to Drop B

With a 5 string the first fret B string is C

So when using a 5-string in metal, everyone must drop down to A instead

Wow! Thanks guys! I got GHS boomers (I heard they were good for downtuning). So its C G C F? thats better, I wont have to go so low! I'd considered a 5-string..but i dont wanna buy one lol.. I entered that contest for the pedulla on bassplayer.com..but dont think i'll wint it

Thanks for th help, that makes it easier!

down-tuning is never an easy thing, I've never touched low notes until i got a BEAD bass.

Make sure you ask your guitarist, some people consider Db Ab Db Gb as drop C. Perhaps all guitar based musicians of the world should get together and form a naming convention.

i bought a Squier 5. inexpensive, works wonderfully, and it get's the job done.
