Anyone every try getting drum and guitar song books and practice laying down bass lines to that?

I was thinking getting some of those books that have just recordings of only the guitar or drum would be a fun way of learning how to write bass line and testing yourself to see how many different styles of bass lines you could lay down for one beat or one riff.

I have a few drum books lying around, but haven't gotten around to doing this yet... But, I plan on doing so soon (using my Zoom RT-223.

The books I have are:

Ultimate Realistic Rock Method by Carmine Appice

The Drummer's Cook by John Pickering

It would be fun to have something like a weekly challenge, where someone could create a drum beat (mp3?)... and TB'ers could all come up with a baseline, and record and post so we could all see how we each interpret a different beat to a bass line...

That sounds like fun. Lets not make it into a competetion. Just you know, post your bass line and write the review.
