Drummer Wants to Learn Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
The drummer in my band (light rock to hard rock covers) has an interest in learning bass. He knows music theory, can read music, and has good rhythm and timing. Obviously, not the typical beginner on bass, like I was when I first started playing. I was wondering what would be a good approach for his studies.

I would say his goal would be to gain an appreciation for the role of bass in a band not necessarily to become a bass player.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

switch instruments.
That way, at the same time, you get to appreciate what it is a drummer does.
Win-Win.

tell him to buy one and start playing it. If he has the theory and the feel, he just needs to get used to the physical aspects of playing a bass

As a drummer he should have a good sense of rhythm....which pretty much nails the role of a bass player right there. Both go hand in hand. So all that's left now is for him to pick up the instrument and start practicing technique and scales for starters. I was pretty much in his position...drumming for 8 years and then shifting to bass.

You might want to check out the links in my sig. for some great TB info that may help the drummer along bass playing journey.

Good luck.
