if you use mac osx/linux you should check out Hydrogen. basically a drum sequencer with some extra bells and whistles

Hydrogen is also available for Windows, although an older version. I agree, Hydrogen is great, you can set up any beat you want.

I'm personaly addicted to EZ Drummer -- a plugin that gives you a ton of grooves. You use it from within a sequencer/DAW program (if you don't have one of those, Reaper is the best way to get started for minimal $$ upfront).

The catch is: all the good tracks and drum kit sounds come as expansion packs, called EZ Xs. By the time you've found what yo need, it's not so cheap. But I'm totally happy with the Vintage, Jazz, Electronic and Latin EZ X expansions. Great sounds, and mostly great grooves. Your stylistic interests may differ. Check 'em out at toontracks.com

If you can't afford all the purchases, Kitcore is worth a look; the deluxe version comes with a good selection of styles already. (Google it.)
